Jammu, July 05: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) In-charge of J&K elections, G Kishan Reddy, stated on Friday that the party had the majority and successfully abrogated Article 370 with the full support of people across the country. He said this during a State Office Bearers’ meeting at the party headquarters in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, which lasted for more than three hours.
On August 5, 2019, the Centre stripped the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir of special status and bifurcated it into two union territories – Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Since then, the BJP has been claiming that the abrogation of Article 370 played a pivotal role in the development of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reddy urged the party cadre to be well-prepared for the upcoming assembly elections in J&K and to reach out to every household with the BJP government’s achievements. He highlighted the numerous achievements of the BJP during its ten-year rule and emphasised the importance of informing the public about these accomplishments.
The meeting was also attended by Tarun Chugh, In-charge of J&K BJP, Ashish Sood, Ravinder Raina, and other senior leaders. It was noted that BJP National President, JP Nadda, would be visiting Jammu on Saturday to chair the ‘extended BJP executive meet’ in Akhnoor.
The purpose of Saturday’s executive meeting is to provide feedback to the high command regarding the party’s preparations for the Assembly elections.
During the BJP state office bearers meeting, Sunil Sethi moved a resolution demanding 250 units of free power and concessions for farmers. However, the party rejected the resolution, stating, “Such issues would be considered once BJP forms the government,” sources said.
The BJP did not contest from any of the three seats in the valley—Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag. However, it contested two seats in the Jammu region – Jammu and Udhampur – and won both. In Kashmir, National Conference won Srinagar and Anantnag parliamentary constituencies while the jailed politician Er Rashid, who heads his Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) emerged as the winner in the Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, defeating the former chief minister and NC leader Omar Abdullah and People’s Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone.
