DG BSF emphasises vigilance as winter sparks infiltration

Srinagar, Nov 09: Reiterating that ahead of winter season cross border infiltration attempts posed a challenge to security forces, Director General Border Security Force (BSF), Nitin Agrawal on Thursday underscored the persistent challenge of cross-border attempts to push terrorists ahead of winter, a tactic synchronised with the impending closure of routes due to heavy snowfall.
Addressing the media after inspecting a passing out parade of 599 BSF recruits, Agrawal revealed the consistent efforts from the other side to maximize terrorist influx before winter sets in.
Emphasising the annual nature of such endeavours, DG BSF Agrawal said that security forces remain on high alert, poised to thwart any infiltration bids.
DG expressed confidence in the alertness of the security forces to block such attempts.
DG Agrawal’s recent visit to the Line of Control (LoC) and interactions with troops reaffirmed their readiness to foil any infiltration attempts.
In response to a query about ceasefire violations in Samba district, Agrawal said multiple attacks by Pakistani troops targeting BSF posts and personnel.
He commended the effective retaliation by Indian forces, noting potential damage on the other side. Tragically, a BSF head constable succumbed to injuries sustained during these incidents, the senior officer said.
Regarding a query over the possible impact on the ceasefire, DG Agrawal indicated ongoing discussions to understand the reasons behind the recent firing incidents.
He remained cautious about predicting the situation’s escalation but emphasized the forces’ commitment to retaliating effectively.
Regarding the speculation of firing being a cover for infiltrators, DG BSF pointed out the lower likelihood of infiltration along the International Border, except for the Arnia sector.
He dismissed the notion of significant activity across the border, asserting that any such undertakings would be discreet to avoid detection.
DG BSF also appreciated the excellent display of self-confidence, skills and coordination which was the high point of the parade.
He applauded the recruits for choosing BSF as a career option and exhorted them to serve the nation with courage and enthusiasm.
DG BSF congratulated, Inspector General, Ftr HQ BSF Kashmir and the instructional teams for successful efforts in achieving the objectives of molding the Recruits, as trained Seema Prahari, giving them self-confidence & turning them into disciplined Jawans.
Later, the Chief Guest awarded medals to Recruits who performed exceptionally well in various indoor & outdoor training activities.
In the event, passing out parade and attestation ceremony of Recruits Batch No. 114, 115, 116, 117 & 118 was held, in which 599 Recruits, passed out to join BSF as brave Seema Prahari.
The trainees hail from Eastern & southern India (Ordisha-204, Andhra Pradesh-208, Kerala-112 & Telangana-75 – Total =599).
The parade was commanded by Const P. Narendra (Batch No. 116- ‘D’ Coy). Five trainees from the each batch were adjudged best in different competitions and were presented with trophies.
A BSF spokesman informed that throughout the 44-week training at the STC BSF, Kashmir, recruits underwent a comprehensive program, honing their skills in handling diverse weaponry, refining firing techniques, gaining knowledge in law, drill, and border management.
“The dedicated efforts of the trainers resulted in a substantial enhancement of the recruits’ physical prowess, preparing them holistically—physically, mentally, and professionally—to serve the nation in both peace and war,” he said.
The spokesman said in addition to their core training, recruits received instruction in various disciplines such as Field Engineering, Field Craft, Tactics, Anti-Terrorism, Counter-Insurgency Operations, Law & Order, and Human Rights.
“This multifaceted training equipped them with a broad skill set, essential for handling complex situations in the line of duty,” he said.
The passing out parade marked the culmination of their rigorous training, and the subsequent displays showcased the recruits’ talents.
A Brass Band performance, a demonstration of South Indian ancient martial arts (kalaripayattu), and a rendition of the BSF song by the recruits captivated spectators, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
