JAMMU, June 23:Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Litchi Festival and Agriculture Exhibition organized by the Horticulture Department in Jammu today.
The event, aimed at promoting agricultural diversification and showcasing advancements in the sector, drew participation from progressive farmers, growers, and stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Governor Sinha underscored the administration’s steadfast commitment to farmers’ welfare and its initiative to explore new avenues for their prosperity. He highlighted the transformative impact of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP) on Jammu and Kashmir’s agriculture and allied sectors, emphasizing that 29 HADP projects are poised to address challenges faced by farmers while diversifying income sources.
Expressing confidence in the potential of litchi cultivation, Lt Governor Sinha disclosed the administration’s target to convert 160 hectares into high-density plantations in the coming years. He assured comprehensive support from the administration for litchi and other fruit farmers, particularly in marketing their produce.
During the event, Lt Governor Sinha visited stalls set up by farmers and entrepreneurs, acknowledging their contributions and distributing awards for the best stall. A book on litchi cultivation was also launched, highlighting advancements and practices in the sector.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Bharat Bhushan, Chairman, DDC Jammu; Shailendra Kumar, Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production Department; Dr BN Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, along with senior officials, farmers, and stakeholders.
