Srinagar, June 16: Political and religious leaders in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday extended warm greetings to people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. They prayed for peace, progress and prosperity in the Union Territory and highlighted the significance of the “Festival of Sacrifice”.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice”, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays observed by Muslims worldwide. Celebrated on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, it commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son, Ismail (Ishmael), as an act of obedience to God.
This Eid also coincides with the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, which is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Pilgrims perform the sacrifice as part of their rituals, connecting the global Muslim community in a shared act of worship and devotion. The spirit of Eid-ul-Adha is one of reflection, gratitude and the reaffirmation of faith, reminding Muslims of the importance of selflessness and the enduring values of their faith.

The core philosophy of the day evokes deep concern for the needy and offers us a window of opportunity to alleviate the plight of the poor and destitute and imbue ourselves with the spirit of compassion, generosity, empathy and care. May the day provide relief to the beleaguered people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and rid them of all the tribulations and problems they are facing.”

The auspicious day of the Eid Al Azha stresses the need for equality of mankind, god consciousness, generosity, alms-giving and peaceful coexistence of the entire humankind. The divinely inspired sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) and the obedience of his son Hazrat Ismail (PBUH) have immortalized the day till eternity.
