8 quintals of firewood seized in Rafiabad: Police

Baramulla, Oct 10: The Jammu and Kashmir Police Monday registered an FIR against an accused for allegedly cutting down two standing green trees in Dangiwacha Rafiabad area of Langate forest division.
A police official said that the accused Saif ud din Khan, a resident of Pazalpora Rafiabad, has allegedly axed two trees inside a forest area to be used for a marriage ceremony.
Reyaz Ahmad, Range Officer Watergam-Rafiabad told Rising Kashmir that being a local the accused was well within his rights to use a permissible quantity of firewood that too under the supervision of the forest official. But he misused his rights and axed standing trees without any official permission.
“The accused Saif-u-Din Khan axed two live standing trees without any permission. Our field staff took cognizance of the matter and informed the police. An FIR has been lodged against the accused at Dangiwacha police station,” the official said.
The forest area of Watergam Rafiabad falls in forest division Langate.
Sharing further details, the Range Officer said that FIR number 106/2022 under section 379 of IPC and 26 Indian Forest Act has been registered against Saif-u-Din.
“The seized firewood which weighed approximately around 8 quintals has been shifted to Langate forest headquarters,” he added.
