Srinagar, Sep 19: KVK Ganderbal started the six-month Rural Horti Work Experience (RHWE) internship programme on Tuesday at its Shuhama campus in which 50 horticulture graduating students are participating.
The session was presided over by Dr Ishfaq Abidi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Ganderbal. In his address, Dr Abidi signified the importance of the internship programme in imparting field skills among the students for tackling different problems encountered by the farmers dealing with fruit, vegetable and flower farming.
An interaction session was held with the trainees to learn about their working interests. Following this, Dr Shafat A Banday, Scientist Horticulture gave detailed information about the internship programme and the different activities to be conducted during this internship period.
The awareness regarding the post-harvest fruit management activities and visits to the industrial units was deliberated by Dr Rafiya Munshi, Scientist Home Science. Dr Farooq A Ahanger, Scientist Plant Protection enlightened the internees about the different pathological problems that can be faced at the farmers’ fields and the ways to redress them.
At the end, Dr Eajaz Ahmad Dar, Scientist Agronomy, deliberated on the different soil, water and nutrient management activities to be undertaken by the internees at KVK and at the contact farmers field. The session was concluded by Dr Shaheen Farooq.
