Srinagar, May 22: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Vice President, Mohammad Sartaj Madni on Thursday accused the National Conference (NC) government of failing to make any real impact on the ground despite having 50 MLAs.
Speaking at an organisational meeting in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, he accused the NC government of betraying the public mandate, the party said in a statement issued here.
“Seven months have passed since the formation of the government, there is no visible change or positive effect on the ground. The NC government with 50 MLAs is missing its address on the ground. There is no impact of governance or presence,” Madni said.
He criticised the rejection of crucial resolutions, such as those on Article 370 and Waqf, by the NC in the assembly, only to see these same issues being discussed now in party offices. “This is a betrayal of the mandate the people gave them,” he said.
“The same government and assembly, where they enjoy an absolute mandate, rejected critical resolutions and bills brought forward by the PDP. Our three MLAs brought resolutions on Article 370, Waqf and bills on state land, daily wagers, and the liquor ban, yet all of these were decomposed by the very government and assembly they control,” the PDP leader said.
Madni praised the three PDP MLAs for their “tireless work, strong performance and fearless advocacy” of public issues in the assembly. “Our three MLAs have consistently raised the concerns of the public without fear, even when the NC government is trying to gag those voices in the assembly. Their commitment to the people and their unflinching stand on key issues deserve immense appreciation,” he said.
The party’s Vice President raised concerns about the government’s unfulfilled promises, such as merit-based jobs, employment and free electricity. “What happened to the promise of merit, jobs, and employment? Where is the free electricity they promised?” he asked.
The meeting, focused on party strategy, grassroots outreach and the political path forward, was attended by party officials, district presidents, contesting candidates, zone presidents, senior party leaders, and workers, the statement said.
After the session, Madni said the PDP is committed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “We are, and will continue to be, with our people through every situation—good or bad,” he said, adding that the public must hold those who voted the current government into power accountable for their unfulfilled promises.
