Srinagar, Dec 09: In a commendable display of legal efficacy, the 4th National Lok Adalat, organized by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar under the patronage of the J&K Legal Services Authority, saw the resolution of 52,774 cases at the District Court Complex Mominabad Srinagar on Saturday. The event, held under the guidance of Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, witnessed the inauguration by Jawad Ahmed, Chairman of District Legal Services Authority Srinagar.
The National Lok Adalat, featuring 14 different benches, including three specialized ones for revenue matters, social and welfare matters, and labor cases, addressed a spectrum of legal issues. Notable benches included Ms. Jeema Bashir and Ms. Aarti Mohan adjudicating Motor Vehicle accident-related cases, awarding compensation totaling Rs. 2,58,75,000. Additionally, bench no. 3, led by Arvind Sharma and Ms. Renu Dogra, settled bank cases amounting to Rs. 6,77,42,494. Bench no. 7, headed by Ms. Fozia Paul and Shafeeq Ahmad Malik, resolved cases, resulting in a settlement amount of Rs. 8,23,50,000.
The Lok Adalat addressed a diverse array of cases, including civil, criminal compoundable, cheque bounce, traffic challans, bank matters, MACT, land compensation, matrimonial, electricity, and pre-litigation matters. Notably, pre-litigation matters encompassed PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, social welfare schemes, matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipality cases, revenue matters, social welfare, and labor cases.
Out of a total of 58,811 matters presented for amicable settlement, an impressive 52,774 matters were successfully resolved. The settlement amounted to a staggering Rs. 18,42,60,478, reinforcing the effectiveness of the Lok Adalat mechanism in providing speedy justice and reducing legal backlog.
This successful endeavor highlights the commitment of the legal system to ensure accessible and efficient dispute resolution, further reinforcing the significance of National Lok Adalats in promoting justice and alleviating the burden on the traditional court system.
