Srinagar, Dec 09: To elevate the aesthetic and functional appeal of Srinagar, the Srinagar Smart City officials announced on Saturday a pivotal project that is poised to reshape the city’s connectivity.
The upcoming footbridge at Amirakadal, set to seamlessly link Lal Chowk & Riverfront with Gonikhan and Hari Singh Street, has been touted as a beacon of connectivity by Athar Amir Khan, the CEO of Smart City. The strategic location of the footbridge at the former Amirakadal bridge site promises to provide a picturesque and uninterrupted connection across the iconic River Jhelum.
CEO Athar Amir Khan expressed enthusiasm for the project, emphasizing its significance in completing the pedestrian integration of both sides of the city. The footbridge, he stated, is just one facet of a comprehensive initiative to transform Srinagar into a more enchanting and visitor-friendly destination.
Khan shed light on various ongoing projects, including Heritage Restoration & Urban Renewal in the Downtown Shehre-Khas areas. The ambitious plan encompasses a holistic approach to city development, addressing crucial elements such as sewerage, drainage, underground electricity, cobbled roads, and tiled paths.
A major highlight of the initiative is the meticulous facade restoration of heritage buildings, promising a visual delight that resonates with the rich cultural history of the region. As the heart of Srinagar’s Old City undergoes this renaissance, residents and visitors alike will soon have the opportunity to stroll through charming streets steeped in history.
CEO Athar Amir Khan expressed hope that the revitalized spaces would bring joy to the city’s residents, fostering a renewed sense of pride and appreciation for Srinagar’s cultural heritage.
