Kulgam, Aug 08: In the ongoing special summary revision of photo Electoral Rolls, Kulgam district has seen significant updates with the addition of 5000 new voters to the electoral list.
According to officials, the revision process has also led to the establishment of eight new polling stations across the district, following the norms set by the Election Commission of India.
Deputy District Election Officer (DyDEO) Bilal Ahmad Kamgar confirmed these developments, saying that the new polling stations aim to provide easier access for voters, ensuring that they can cast their ballots at the nearest locations. This brings the total number of polling stations in the district to 372, serving a voter base of 325,680 eligible individuals.
He said that Kulgam district comprises three Assembly Constituencies: 38-DH Pora, 39-Kulgam, and 40-Devsar. According to Kamgar, the district currently has a Gender Ratio of Electors of 993 and an Electoral Population (EP) Ratio exceeding 64%.
“The ongoing revision has also addressed 1,581 claims and objections related to the addition, deletion, and transposition of applications, demonstrating the district’s efforts to further enhance the accuracy and inclusiveness of the Electoral Roll,” he said.
He further said that the summary revision is part of broader efforts to improve the electoral process and ensure all eligible voters are duly registered.
“August 9, 2024 is the last date for the filling of Claims & Objections, anybody who has attained the age of 18 years on 01-07-2024 can apply for Addition of His/Her name in the Electoral Roll, similarly last date for Correction of name, address/Transposition is also 09-08-2024. The final Electoral Roll shall be published on August 20, 2024,” he added.
