2nd National Lok Adalat settles over 40,000 cases in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 13 – The 2nd National Lok Adalat was organized on Saturday at the District Court Complex in Srinagar under the guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, the Chief Justice of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Jawad, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar at the A. D. R Centre, District Court Complex Srinagar.
A total of 11 benches were constituted by DLSA Srinagar for the settlement of cases, including civil, criminal compoundable, cheque bounce, traffic challans, bank matters, MACT, land compensation, matrimonial, electricity, and pre-litigation matters. The Lok Adalat also took up pre-litigation matters such as PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, social welfare schemes, matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipality cases, and other government schemes.
The Lok Adalat settled a total of 40,899 out of 46,044 matters that were taken up for amicable settlement, realizing a sum of Rs. 8,66,40,376. In motor vehicle accident-related cases, Lok Adalat bench of Ms. Jeena Bashir and Khursheed ul Islam awarded compensation to the tune of Rs. 2 Crore 25 Lacs.
The successful conduct of the National Lok Adalat reflects the commitment of the judiciary towards providing speedy justice and reducing the pendency of cases. The event has brought great relief to the litigants who have been waiting for a long time for the settlement of their cases.
