A 25-year-old ‘disabled’ man died after slipping and getting buried under sand in Shanoo Village of Langate in the northern town of Handwara on Monday.
According to local residents, the deceased slipped and became trapped under the sand. They said soon after the incident a rescue operation was launched by locals and the police, and he was recovered in an unconscious state.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctor declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Javid Ahmad Mir, son of Late Abdul Jabar Mir, a resident of Shanoo, Langate.
“Relatives of the deceased stated that neither he nor any member of his family was involved in excavating sand or Bajri.”
Meanwhile, a police officer confirmed the incident to Rising Kashmir and stated that after completing the necessary legal formalities, the deceased was handed over to the family for the last rites.
