Baramulla, Dec 14: More than 25 goats were killed and several others injured in a bear attack in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Locals said that on the night of December 13-14, bears attacked the cattle shed of Mohammad Lateef, resident of Jabla Kamalkot, and killed approximately 25 goats. This has created fear in the area.
Confirming the incident, Jamshed Ahmed, Sarpanch of Jabla Uri, said several bears entered the village, causing havoc in Mohammad Lateef’s cattle shed. The incident follows a recent bear attack on another resident, Syed Muhammad Maqbool, where five goats were killed.
Expressing concern, locals highlighted the potential threat to human lives if wild animals continue to roam freely in the area. They urged the Wildlife Department authorities to take immediate measures to control the bears and prevent further incidents.
The residents also called upon Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asghar to provide swift assistance to the affected family in the aftermath of the bear attack. They also sought prompt action to ensure the safety of both livestock and residents in the area.
