Rajouri, Dec 15: “Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri despite its relatively young age in terms of its establishment has been making significant strides in the field of academics, infrastructural developments, and other extra-curricular activities so much so that it has reckoned its presence as one of the premier institutions of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Akbar Masood on Thursday in his address on the occasion of the university’s 19th Foundation Day.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Akbar Masood and the First Lady of the University Dr. Seema Akbar graced the event, while Prof. Qayyum Husain, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Srinagar was the chief guest on the occasion.
In his address, Prof. Akbar said that over the years, BGSB University has emerged as a popular academic destination for the students of J&K and created its distinctive niche for academic pursuits in this hinterland. “After achieving many milestones in recent years, it now looks forward to sustained future development to occupy the coveted position amongst the national and international institutions of excellence,” the VC said.
Congratulating the BGSBU fraternity on the 19th Foundation Day, the VC mentioned that many student-centric and employee-friendly initiatives have been taken up recently which are yielding unbelievable results in terms of the performance of students, staff, and faculty members of the university. “As we have completed 19 years of our remarkable journey, we pledge to continue to strive for excellence, for which the foundation was laid on this very day, 19 years,” Prof. Akbar said.
Prof. Qayyum Husain in his address applauded the BGSBU fraternity for making “path-breaking initiatives” and developing BGSB University as a center of excellence in academics and research. “In the last two years under the magnanimous leadership of Prof. Akbar Masood, BGSB University has been creating a niche in the academic forums not only in India but abroad as well,” he said. Congratulating the students for their power-packed performances, Prof. Qayoom advised them to imbibe a positive attitude and self-belief and work towards the betterment of the country.
On the occasion, the Vice Chancellor felicitated Khurshid Bismil, who has written the Tarana of the university. The VC also felicitated six recently retired employees of the university including Mr. Rashid Chowdhary and Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Wani. On the occasion, the VC felicitated an alumnus of the university Mr. Zahoor Ahmed as well.
The Vice-Chancellor also felicitated five departments – Department of Zoology, Department of Botany, Department of Biotechnology, College of Nursing, and Centre for Hospitality and Tourism – for their outstanding performance.
