Jammu, Sept 12: After the elections are over in J&K, the newly elected MLAs have to sit in the old complex as the construction work of new Assembly complex at Civil Secretariat Jammu would take at-least a year to get completed.
The work on the new Assembly complex was started in 2011 and the foundation stone was laid by the then Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Initially, the construction cost of the new Assembly Complex at Jammu was Rs 120 crore but due to delay, it has now escalated to over Rs 220 crore.
“The work on the new Assembly complex is going on but it may take around a year for completion,” sources said, while adding, “If the work gets delayed further, the cost escalation will also go up”.
Sources said that in the last 13 years since the work of the new Assembly Complex at Jammu was started in 2011, sometimes the funds were not available and sometimes other obstructions appeared thus stalling the work.
After Omar Abdullah laid the foundation stone of the new Assembly complex in 2011, the BJP-PDP coalition government was formed in 2014.
