The SSP further said that the recovery has avoided a major tragedy as the ammunition could have been misused by the terrorists. He added, “The Pika Gun is a highly sophisticated weapon and misuse of these 127 rounds by the terrorists has been averted by the recovery”.
Meanwhile officials said that the ammunition recovered from Rajouri on Sunday appears to be oldbutmaintained that it could possibly be due to dumping beneath the ground .
When contacted,  SSP said that a thorough investigation by the experts was required in this regard. “We will approach the experts in this regard,” he said.

“How old was the dumped ammunition which was recovered today and whether it was still effective and usable has to be decided and ascertained by the experts,” the Rajouri SSP said, adding, “Their opinion will be sought”.
