Work suspended on Zojila Tunnel

Ganderbal, Jan 13: Due to inclement weather, Mega Engineering infrastructure Limited (MEIL) Friday suspended work on Zojila Tunnel temporarily.   
Officials told Rising Kashmir that due heavy snowfall from last couple of days a massive snow avalanche struck at Sarbal Sonamarg in which two workers working in Mega Engineering Infrastructure were buried alive.
They said that over 70% of workers working in the project were discharged by the officials of (MEIL) due to bad weather conditions and heavy snowfall. 
Sub Divisional Magistrate Kangan Javaid Ahmad Rather said assessing the weather situation, comapny temporarily suspended their work construction work on Zojila Tunnel for the safety of workers.
Project Manager Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) Harpal Singh told Rising Kashmir that they have relieved over 767 workers who are working in the company will get half salary until the work will not resumed.
Harpal said work will be temporarily closed until the weather not improves.
Meanwhile the sub divisional administration Kangan has issued an advisory to general public in view of snowfall and slippery road conditions in several areas of Sub division Kangan.
According to an order a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir SDM said to prevent accidents and long lasting traffic jams due to slippery road, which puts the commuters to much inconvenience, only 4*4 vehicles and those with anti-skid chains shall be allowed from Gagangeer to Sonmargh and vice versa till the thawing of the ice from road, the order reads.
The higher reaches of Central Kashmirs Ganderbal district received heavy snowfall on the third consecutive day today.
Meanwhile two labourers who were working with Mega Engineering Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) were buried under several feet of snow after a massive Snow avalanche struck at Sarbal in Sonamarg area on Thursday.
