Baramulla, Sep 15: The Zainageer Sports Carnival commenced with a vibrant opening ceremony at the Warapora sports ground in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
Students from various schools displayed their school banners as they marched with enthusiasm, setting the tone for two days of athletic competition and camaraderie.
The carnival, organized by Irfan Dilawar Bhat, is designed to promote sportsmanship and inspire young athletes to pursue careers in sports.
Irfan Bhat expressed his belief that there is a wealth of athletic talent in Kashmir waiting to be discovered and nurtured.
“The event aims not only to showcase local talent but to serve as a platform for students from across Kashmir to participate,” he said.
The lineup of events includes Kho-Kho, volleyball, and athletics, with competitions for both boys and girls.
The organizers anticipate a significant turnout from all corners of Kashmir, making it a highly anticipated sporting spectacle.
To motivate the participants, trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
“Such events play a crucial role in nurturing the talents of young athletes and instilling the values of sportsmanship,” Irfan further said.
Inaugurating the carnival, ADC Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, stressed the importance of sports events in today’s society, particularly for youth, as they divert their energies towards positive activities.
He acknowledged the organizers’ efforts in promoting sports in the region.
SSP Sopore, Shabir Nawab, echoed the sentiment, commending the organizers for their dedication and pledging full support to elevate such sporting events to the next level.
He extended his best wishes to the participating athletes for their future endeavors.
The opening day of the sports carnival was graced by the presence of CO 22 RR and other civil officers, further highlighting the significance of the event in the region’s sports calendar.
