Srinagar, May 29: In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, the Department of Youth Services and Sports Ganderbal Thursday organised a vibrant Cyclothon in Zone Ganderbal, aimed at spreading awareness about environmental conservation with a focus on the global theme, Ending Plastic Pollution Globally. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 54 individuals, including both boys and girls, as well as staff members from the zone. The rally commenced from the Clock Tower Ganderbal, passed through Fatehpora Road, and culminated at the Government College of Physical Education Gadoora, covering a significant stretch of road.
The primary objective of the Cyclothon was to engage the public in the ongoing dialogue about plastic pollution and its adverse effects on biodiversity and ecosystems. Participants carried the message of sustainable living and responsible consumption through their journey. At the conclusion of the rally, all participants were felicitated with medals and mementoes in recognition of their commitment to the cause and enthusiastic participation. In a separate initiative to foster sportsmanship and talent at the grassroots level, Zone Kangan of YSS Ganderbal successfully conducted an Inter-School Zonal Level Badminton Competition for Girls at BHSS Manigam. The competition drew participation from 88 girl students representing various schools of the zone. The event provided a platform for young athletes to demonstrate their skills and competitive spirit.
