Srinagar, July 17: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Jammu and Kashmir, ignited a wave of athletic enthusiasm across the Union Territory on Thursday by hosting a dynamic range of inter-district and zonal-level sporting events. The competitions fostered not only physical excellence but also camaraderie, discipline, and the spirit of healthy competition among the youth.As per a statement issued here, the Inter-District Provincial Level Baseball Championship (Under-14 Girls) concluded at the Government College of Physical Education (GCOPE), Gadoora, Ganderbal, after two days of intense and exciting play. Organised by the YSS and hosted by the District Youth Services and Sports Office (DYSSO) Ganderbal, the event featured teams from seven districts across Kashmir. In the final match, District Ganderbal displayed remarkable teamwork and skill to defeat District Pulwama, while District Kulgam clinched third place with a commendable win over District Kupwara. Trophies were awarded to the top teams, celebrating their achievements and sportsmanship. The championship’s next leg—Under-17 Girls Baseball—is set to begin tomorrow at the same venue.Meanwhile, DYSSO Anantnag continued its packed sporting calendar with high-energy tournaments across several zones. In the Subroto Mukherjee Football Cup (Under-15 Boys), Wizkids School Batengoo lifted the title after a thrilling final against Radiant Public School Batengoo. The tournament featured 64 budding footballers and was inaugurated by a senior education officer.Adding to the momentum, the District-Level Inter-School Kabaddi Tournament (Under-19 Boys) saw 432 participants from 36 Higher Secondary Schools competing at BMHSS Bijbehara and HSS Brakpora. Zone Anantnag organised an Inter-School Volleyball Tournament for Under-14 and Under-17 Girls, attracting 191 enthusiastic students. Simultaneously, Zone Achabal hosted a Martial Arts Meet, where 107 boys showcased their skills in Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, and Wushu. In Shopian, the sporting spirit surged at a Table Tennis Competition (U14 & U17 Boys) hosted at Gung Baksh Hanfiya High School Arhama. Organised by DYSSO Shopian and inaugurated by the In-charge Activity Officer, the event brought out fierce yet friendly competition.In Budgam, the Inter-District Provincial Level Volleyball Tournament (Under-14 Boys) kicked off at the Sports Stadium Chrar-e-Sharief, drawing 110 athletes from 10 districts. The event was formally inaugurated by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer, who underscored the department’s commitment to grassroots sports development. In Kishtwar, vibrant inter-school zonal-level tournaments unfolded across multiple zones. Cricket, volleyball, kabaddi, and kho-kho matches for Under-19 boys and girls were organised under the supervision of Zonal Physical Education Officers, showcasing robust community involvement.
