Srinagar, May 03: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Anantnag, Saturday organised a series of inter-school and zonal-level sports events across various zones, aiming to promote physical fitness and a drug-free lifestyle among youth.
In Zone Bijbehara, the Inter-School Under-14 Zonal Level Football Tournament concluded on Saturday at Delhi Public School (DPS) Sangam, Anantnag. The final saw a thrilling contest between Educator School Bijbehara and DPS Sangam, ending 2–2 in regular time. Educator School Bijbehara clinched victory in a nail-biting penalty shootout, followed by sudden death. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the zone, with 320 students taking part in total and 96 competing on the final day.
Meanwhile, other zones also hosted multiple events. Zone Qazigund conducted Under-17 Boys’ Badminton competitions at High School Sangran. Zone Doru organised Baseball tournaments for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys and Girls at Middle School Chakpath, attracting a total of 570 participants. Zone Verinag successfully concluded Badminton tournaments for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys at Government Degree College Verinag, with 36 students taking part. Zone Mattan held Cricket selection trials for Under-14 and Under-17 Boys at Sports Stadium Mattan, drawing around 160 participants. These initiatives collectively aim to nurture young talent, instil discipline, and cultivate a culture of healthy competition and physical well-being.
