Srinagar, Oct 10: To enlighten students and scholars about the latest trends and advances in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and their future impact on the subject, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Kashmir (KU), today organised a day-long seminar here to celebrate World Pharmacists Day.
The event under this year’s theme, ‘Pharmacists: Meeting Global Health Needs’, featured invited lectures on emerging topics in the pharmaceutical field.
In her presidential address, Prof Nilofer Khan appreciated the department’s performance and activities, urging them to conduct more curriculum development workshops in alignment with the National Education Policy-2020.
She emphasised conducting research relevant to society and the nation, with efforts to enhance its translational value.
“There is a need for pharmacists to promote proactive, promotive and preventive healthcare alongside curative measures,” she said while underlining the importance of a balanced diet, physical fitness and mental health.
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, emphasised the impact of the fourth industrial revolution and the role of Artificial Intelligence in transforming the healthcare system.
“There is a need to leverage these technologies in pharmaceutical sciences and more industry-academia interactions to tackle the challenges faced by the industry, society and government,” he added.
Dean, School of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof Zulfiqar Ali Bhat, highlighted the crucial role pharmacists play in sustainable healthcare worldwide.
“Budding pharmacists need to adopt modern practices to stay current with the rapidly changing pharmaceutical landscape,” he said.
In her special address, Drugs Controller, J&K, Lotika Khajuria, detailed the efforts of her department in ensuring access to safe, effective and affordable medicines.
“Pharmacists need to stay updated with the latest knowledge and competencies to meet global professional standards,” she urged.
Prof Sabeeha Shafi, Organising Chairperson, and Head, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, KU in her welcome address, reflected on the department’s activities and future programmes.
“At KU, we are committed to organise events like these to promote latest trends and advances in the field of pharmaceutical sciences and their future impact,” she noted.
