World Heritage Day:Students taught methods for conserving manuscripts by using acid-free paper

Jammu, Apr 19: Department of M.A. Integrated History: Cultural Heritage, School of Social Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu organized a one-day workshop on ‘Preventive   Conservation of Manuscript’ in collaboration with Shashvat Art Gallery Museum & Manuscripts Library Jammu, Manuscript Conservation Centre, established by National Mission for Manuscripts, IGNCA, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, to commemorate the World Heritage Day on April 18.
Dr. Sindhu Kapoor introduced the theme of the workshop and the key speaker Dr. Suresh Abrol, (Director) – including his team Mr. Ramesh Chander(Advisor), Mr. K.K. Kotwal (Technical Assistant) and Mr. Arvind Kotiyal (Senior Conservator) of Shashvat Art Gallery: Museum & Manuscripts Library Jammu – to the students.
There were two sessions in the workshop wherein the Director of the Gallery – Dr. Suresh Kumar Abrol – made the students aware of the various aspects of the conservation of manuscripts and their importance. He highlighted various initiatives taken by the gallery related to the conservation of the heritage and culture of the region. The second technical session was headed by Mr. Arvind Kotiyal, Senior Conservator. He taught students various methods for the conservation of manuscripts by using acid-free paper. The workshop was attended by around 25 students in the 7th and 9th semesters of the Department of History.
The workshop was organized under the supervision of the Dean School of Social Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu and was also attended by the faculty of the Department of History – Dr. Nitin Chandel, Dr. Arvind Singh Jamwal and Dr. Vishal Baloria (Asst. Prof. Dept. of History). A vote of thanks was given by Dr. Roshi Charak (Asst. Prof. Dept. of History)
