Ganderbal, Dec 27: Patients at District Hospital Ganderbal Complained that they are facing harsh conditions as the central heating system, despite being completed, remains non-operational. The delay has prompted worries about the hospital’s winter preparedness, leaving patients and their attendants grappling with sub-zero temperatures.
They have resorted to carrying traditional firepots, Kangris, to combat the freezing conditions. However, concerns arise over the safety of this makeshift heating solution, with residents highlighting the risks involved.
Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Tulmulla, expressed the difficulties faced by his brother during postoperative care after leg surgery. “We are facing a lot of hardships in the absence of heating facilities. Unfortunately, such a big hospital has no running heating facilities,” he said.
Another attendent Ghulam Mohidin, awaiting his mother’s scheduled surgery, voiced concern about the impact of extreme cold on his elderly mother’s health. “The biting cold is dangerous for an elderly person like her,” he added.
Medical Superintendent Nighat Yasmeen said the delay in operationalizing the central heating system, citing issues that the hospital administration is actively addressing. Despite being a new facility,She emphasized the commitment to finding solutions and expressed hope for a visit from the mechanical division to resolve the operational challenges.
They appealed to the higher authorities of health department to look into the matter.
