Srinagar, June 09: Senior National Conference (NC) leader and minister Javid Dar on Monday responded to recent remarks by Member of Parliament (MP) Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, who claimed that the party has failed to deliver on the people’s mandate. Dar defended the party’s efforts, saying that rebuilding a damaged system requires time and patience.
In an interview with KNS, Javid Dar said that expecting immediate results is unrealistic, es-pecially considering the extensive damage that needed repair.
“How can things be solved in just six months?” Dar questioned. “We were given a five-year mandate, not just six months. Change cannot happen overnight.”
He used the analogy of constructing a house to illustrate the government’s approach. “When you build a house, it takes time—maybe two years. But this house had been empty for the last 5 to 7 years. Its walls and windows were broken. Now, we are in the process of rebuilding it,” he said.
The minister further said that the NC has taken appropriate steps to restore structure and stability to governance.
“We are carefully addressing every issue. We have laid the foundation,” he said. “Now, gradually, we are rebuilding so that our people can live comfortably in the ‘house’ we are re-storing.”
His remarks come amid criticism from MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, who recently said that the party had fallen short of the expectations of the people who voted them into power.
However, Dar urged the public to judge the NC’s performance over the full term of govern-ance, saying that meaningful development and reform require time, especially when starting from a broken system. He called on people to be patient and assess the government’s progress based on the entire mandate, not just a few months.
