Feb 20: The week-long football tournament organized by District Police Srinagar under the Civic Action Programme (CAP) for FY 2024-25 concluded today at the Football Ground, Polo View, Srinagar. The tournament featured five local teams, with the final match played between State Football Academy and Downtown Reserves. After a thrilling contest, Downtown Reserves emerged as the champions.
The tournament served as a valuable platform for the youth of Srinagar to showcase their talent and engage in positive activities. By organising such initiatives, the police aimed to empower young individuals and steer them away from negative influences. The closing ceremony was graced by SP East Srinagar, MS Bisma Qazi (IPS), who attended as the chief guest, alongside SDPO Kothibagh Hariprasad KK (IPS), SHO PS Kothibagh Mohd Manzoor, and other senior officers from East Zone. The tournament sought to instill sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and discipline among the youth while providing an avenue to hone their football skills. Additionally, it was part of a broader effort to engage young individuals in constructive activities, preventing them from falling into harmful influences such as drug abuse.
During the closing ceremony, the winning and runner-up teams, match referees, and officials were honored with trophies and certificates. Players and spectators were provided refreshments, and the winning team received a cash prize. To encourage ongoing participation in sports, football kits and uniforms were also distributed among the participating teams. Speaking at the occasion, senior officers emphasized the significance of engaging in positive activities like sports and encouraged participants to pursue their goals with dedication. They wished them success in their future endeavors. The local community commended District Police Srinagar for organizing such events aimed at fostering a healthier and more constructive environment for the youth.
