War against terror, drugs continues: B’la police seizes properties of 20 terror handlers worth crores in 2024

• Over 150 drug peddlers held till April end

Srinagar, May 14: In a significant crackdown, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla have seized properties worth crores belonging to 20 terror handlers based in Pakistan. Asserting their commitment to combat terror networks, the police attached the properties of the handlers after obtaining an attachment order from Sub Judge Uri on Tuesday.
The properties, including land measuring (1 Kanal& 11 Marlas), were identified as belonging to MohdArifBadal and Mohd Bashir, both residents of Pakistan.
“The action was taken under sections of 83 CRPC & are linked with case FIR No.82/1999 u/s 2/3 EIMCO Act,case FIR No. 34/1999 u/s 354, 323 & 06/2008 u/s 2/3 EIMCO Act of PS Uri,” he said.
Furthermore, the police have arrested two drug smugglers, Abdul QayoomGanie and Gh Hassan Ganie, in Baramulla, recovering a substantial quantity of contraband substances worth approximately Rs 2 crores from their possession. The arrests were made at GanieMohallaTrikanjan.
“During search, 446 grams of contraband Heroin like substance (worth Rs 2 crores approximately) was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Boniyar where they remains in custody,” the police official said.
According to police officials, until April end, a total of 145 drug peddlers, including 36 hardcore offenders, have been arrested in Baramulla district. Additionally, 14 vehicles used for drug trafficking have been seized. The seized properties were reportedly acquired through illicit drug trafficking.
A police official said that Baramulla police have registered 79 cases under NDPS act, arrested 145 drug peddlers which include 36 hard-core drug peddlers who have been booked under PIT NDPS and PSA.
“We have also seized 14 vehicles and cash 1.57 lakhs from drug peddlers in Baramulla district till April 2024. The properties were prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the drug peddlers.
He said that they have also recovered contraband & psychotropic substances worth 1.88 Cr (value of contraband in black market) have been seized since Jan 1.
Briefing about the details, the total quantity of brown Sugar recovered was 432 grams which has the value of pure contraband on the black-market worth rupees 73.71 Lakhs.
Similarly, heroine 197 grams worth rupees 38.31 lakhs, Charas 3.864 Kgs worth Rs 25.75 lakhs, Cannabis powder 60.97 kgs worth Rs. 40.77 Lakhs, SpasmoProxyvon Plus 972 tablets worth Rs 00.458 Lakhs and Codeine Phosphate 61 Syrups worth Rs 00.15 Lakhs.
“People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” he said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Amod Ashok Nagpure said due to sustained action by Police, heroin cases have seen continuous reduction and there is a steep dip in instances of usage of heroin in Baramulla.
“People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” SSP said.
