Baramulla, Nov 08: Police on Wednesday said they arrested a notorious and wanted lady drug peddler in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district and seized contraband substances from her possession.
A police official said that police station Boniyar received reliable information regarding the presence of contraband in a residential house at Trikanjan Boniyar. He said that a police party headed by SHO police station Boniyar under the supervision of SDPO Uri raided the said house.
“During the search, 60 grams of contraband heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of one lady,” the official said, adding that police later on identified the lady as Farhat Begum alias Fancy, wife of Rayees Ahmad Khan, a resident of Trikanjan Boniyar.
He said the lady drug peddler was arrested and shifted to police station Boniyar where she remains in custody.
“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at the Boniyar police station and investigations have been initiated,” he said.
Meanwhile, police in a statement urged the people that if they witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near them, they should feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112.
“People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law,” the statement reads.
