Pulwama : Tehzeeba Hilal, a specially-abled student from Awantipora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has been inspiring scores of young souls from different parts of the country.
Tehzeeba, a visually impaired student, who is pursuing academics in a regular higher secondary school in the spirit of inclusive education has equipped herself with modern computer skills through years of rigorous self-study after facing many challenges.
The challenges neither deterred Tehzeeba to lose sight of her dreams nor she stumbled.
Instead, she has been facing every difficulty with a brave heart which resulted in this teenage girl becoming a road model for her friends, peers and many students from different parts of the country and neighbouring country of Pakistan.
Tehzeeba has been teaching computers to students at Awantipora and her school, government higher secondary Lethpora where she is enrolled in 12th class.
For the past two and half years she has been conducting online classes for specially abled students from India and Pakistan to teach them computers.
” I used to conduct two sessions a day through zoom and google meet till March of this year, ” Tehzeeba said, adding that she has taught around 100 specially abled students so far which included a specially abled girl student from neighbouring country of Pakistan.
From March onwards she has stopped the online lectures to focus on her board examinations.
Recognising her contribution and commitment to the student community, Tehzeeba was recently felicitated by authorities of the school education department during an impressive function held at her school in Lethpora.
The Chief Education Officer, Pulwama, Abdul Qayoom Nadvi described Tehzeeba as a gifted child.
“She is not only marvellous but miraculous for having so much talent, ” he said, adding that such students deserve special attention.
Tehzeeba’s contribution to society was also recognised by the district administration who awarded her a certificate of appreciation during recently held independence day celebrations.
Tehzeeba, who wants to become an IAS Officer to serve his society, especially the community of specially abled persons, will be attending national level children Parliament at New Delhi on 20th of this month where she will deliver an inspirational lecture to students from different parts of the country.
Tehzeeba, who has been a beacon of light for hundreds of students, has to struggle very hard for pursuit of knowledge.
She narrated that she was rejected for basic education by an institution for normal students.
“They told me this school is for normal students, ” She said, adding that she was asked to get admission in a special school.
However, a local private school opened its doors for her and she studied in a normal school for first four standards after which she sought admission in a special school at
area of Anantnag where she passed examinations of three classes in a single year. It was during this time she learnt the Braille system and also acquired knowledge of computers through her own efforts.
The girl student passed her 10th class from a local school in Awantipora.
Presently, she is enrolled at government higher secondary school Lethpora.
