Srinagar, Oct 24: Vice Chancellor, Cluster University Srinagar, Prof. Mohammad Mobin visited S.P. College to review the availability of infrastructure and human resources for starting Ph.D. programme in various Science courses being run at the institution.
Prof. Mobin visited the various departments and laboratories to take a first-hand account of the available facilities. He also interacted with the Heads of Departments and faculty members on the occasion and sought their opinion about the starting of PhD program in their department and adequacy of the facilities for effective implementation of the research program.
In-charge Principal of the college, Dr. Bashir Ahmad Sheikh informed the Vice Chancellor about the ongoing development projects in the college and the status of utilization of funds received in the last fiscal.
Prof. Mobin said SP College is one of the oldest and premier institutes of higher education in Kashmir and it is imperative to enhance its research profile. He observed that the available infrastructure in majority of the departments of the college is adequate to carryout meaningful research. He was impressed by the quality of the research output of some of the faculty members of the college. He sought the inputs from the Principal and senior faculty members regarding the infrastructural requirements in those departments where facilities to start the PhD programme is lacking.
We are going to issue notification for admission to PhD programmes in our five constituent colleges very soon. We have identified around 50 potential research supervisors across disciplines who are eligible to guide PhD students, Prof. Mobin said.
“I want to strengthen the culture of research and development in our constituent colleges and the modalities for the same are being prepared, he added.
Pertinently, Prof. Mobin flagged the requirement of procuring advanced equipment for starting the PhD programmes in the constituent colleges of the university with Minister of Science and Technology, Shri Satish Sharma at the JK Science Congress held recently at Govt. College for Women.
He was accompanied by Controller of Examination, Dr. Khurshid Ahmad Mir and Dean Sciences, Dr. Naseer Hussain Shah.
