Baramulla, Oct 27: Senior Vice President of the Peoples’ Conference and former minister, Abdul Gani Vakil has expressed disappointment over the “unfulfilled promises” made by the Union Territory (UT) government regarding employment opportunities for the unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
During his tour of various villages in Rafiabad and Sopore, including Bomai, Logripora, Nethipora, Brandub, and Tarzooa, Vakil addressed party workers and called for an urgent need for tangible actions to address the escalating unemployment crisis, a statement issued here said.
Vakil criticised the UT government, saying the assurances made by the previous Lt Governor and the current Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha, regarding job creation for thousands of educated youth had remained unfulfilled. Despite notifications from various departments for job openings, the applications submitted by unemployed youth were seemingly disregarded which has led to mounting frustration among the youth, he said.
The lack of employment opportunities, Vakil said, had severe repercussions, driving youth towards negative paths, including involvement in substance abuse and alienation from the mainstream. He warned that such trends were detrimental to national interests, underscoring the urgent need for a concrete job policy to counter these challenges effectively.
Vakil appealed to both the UT administration and the Central government to devise and implement a robust job policy specifically tailored for the unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
