Wangat/Kangan, June 09: Tens of thousands of devotees from across Jammu & Kashmir thronged the revered Baba Nagri shrine in Wangat, Kangan to attend the 129th annual Urs Sharief of Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA). The two-day spiritual event, which is usually observed on June 7–8, was this year celebrated on June 8–9 due to the Eid-ul-Adha festival.
The Urs festivities began with Quran Khawani, Darood Azkar, and Khatmat-ul-Mozama, followed by night-long prayers and Shab-Khawani sessions. The event culminated on Monday with joint congregational prayers in which thousands of devotees prayed for peace, unity, and communal harmony in the region.
Devotees had travelled from far and wide—Rajouri, Poonch, Kalakote, Ganderbal, Kangan, Gund, Kullan, Gagangeer, Thana Mandi, and beyond—to seek blessings at the sacred shrine and participate in the Urs celebrations.
On the concluding day, Sajadh Nisheen and Member of Parliament from Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi, addressed the gathering. In his heartfelt speech, he highlighted the spiritual legacy of Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA), de-scribing him as a beacon of Islamic teachings, piety, and humanity.
“Hazrat Kiyanvi (RA) dedicated his entire life to preaching the message of Islam, love, and service to mankind. His teachings remain ever-relevant in today’s world, where communal harmony and social responsibility are the need of the hour,” Mian Altaf said. He urged the devotees to embody the values of compassion and com-munity welfare as taught by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Prominent political and religious figures also marked their presence at the shrine, including National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Cabinet Minister Satish Sharma, and BJP leader Ravinder Raina. Several noted scholars and clerics participated in the Urs proceedings, lending their voices to the messages of peace and spiritual upliftment.
Mian Altaf personally oversaw the arrangements for lodging, boarding, and other essential facilities for the large number of devotees, ensuring smooth conduct of the Urs. The management received appreciation for maintaining discipline, hospitality, and adequate infrastructure during the high-footfall event.
The annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Nizam-ud-Din Kiyanvi (RA) remains a spiritual cor-nerstone for Kashmir’s devotees, who return year after year to reconnect with faith, community, and the enduring legacy of one of the valley’s most revered saints.
