During last 4 years Jammu and Kashmir has embarked on a journey of profound transformation. This transformation spans across various sectors, reflecting a commitment to inclusive growth and comprehensive development. From revitalizing infrastructure to implementing socio-economic reforms, the region’s trajectory paints a picture of progress and promise.
Central to this transformation is the rollout of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, which has revolutionized healthcare accessibility in Jammu and Kashmir. Under this scheme, every individual is entitled to free treatment worth Rs 5 lakh, a provision that has significantly improved healthcare outcomes and enhanced the overall well-being of the populace. With more than 83 lakh Ayushman cards issued to date, the scheme has emerged as a cornerstone of public health initiatives in the region.
The surge in tourism represents another milestone in the region’s development journey. In 2023 alone, Jammu and Kashmir welcomed a staggering 2 crore 11 lakh tourists, marking the highest figure since 1947. This influx of visitors not only injects vitality into the local economy but also serves as a testament to the region’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty. Moreover, it fosters cross-cultural exchange and global engagement, positioning Jammu and Kashmir as a premier tourist destination on the world stage.
Access to clean drinking water Jammu and Kashmir has made commendable progress in this regard. With over 75 percent of households now receiving clean drinking water, significant strides have been made towards ensuring public health and sanitation. Furthermore, the construction of over 1.73 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana underscores the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing to all segments of society, thereby addressing a critical need and improving living standards.
Job creation and entrepreneurship have flourished in the region, with over 30 thousand government jobs and 656 startups registered in the last four years. This surge in economic activity not only empowers the youth but also drives innovation and economic growth, laying the groundwork for a robust and dynamic economy. Moreover, initiatives like the G20 summit and the Amarnath and Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Yatras have elevated the region’s global profile, showcasing its cultural and religious heritage to the world.
Infrastructure development remains a focal point of the region’s growth agenda. The construction of the world’s largest railway bridge and the expansion of the National Highway network exemplify the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and accessibility. These projects not only facilitate the movement of goods and people but also stimulate economic activity and foster regional development. Additionally, investments in healthcare infrastructure, including the establishment of two AIIMS and seven new medical colleges, underscore the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and access.
The socio-economic landscape of Jammu and Kashmir has also witnessed significant reforms aimed at promoting inclusivity and social justice. The restoration of property rights to women and reservations for marginalized communities represent crucial steps towards gender equality and empowerment. Moreover, initiatives like self-help groups have empowered over 7 lakh women, providing them with avenues for economic independence and social empowerment.
Crucially, the region has witnessed a remarkable turnaround in terms of security and stability. The absence of incidents like stone pelting underscores the success of efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the region. The proud display of the tricolor in prominent locations symbolizes a newfound sense of unity and patriotism, reflecting the aspirations of the people for a peaceful and prosperous future.
In conclusion, the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir post-2019 is a testament to the government’s vision of inclusive development and progress.
