Srinagar, Nov 18: In a significant move to enhance road safety and regulate public transport, Transport Commissioner Rahul Sharma has issued a public notice addressing the pervasive issue of vehicles operating without essential documents. The notice highlights the absence of crucial certifications, including Fitness certificates, Road Tax, Validity of Permit, and Passenger Tax payment in some vehicles.
Vehicle owners are urged to update their documents within 15 days to avoid severe consequences. The notice warns that non-compliant vehicles will be blacklisted, and legal actions will be taken against them.
Simultaneously, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain, has taken decisive steps to address the alarming concern of road accidents, particularly in the Chenab Valley.
In an order dated November 16, all passenger vehicles without a valid fitness certificate and route permit are to be suspended for all services. This measure is part of a broader strategy discussed in high-level meetings addressing road safety concerns and recent fatal incidents.
Responding to the growing issue of overloading in passenger vehicles across the city, RTO Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, emphasized the gravity of the situation for both authorities and passengers. Concerns were raised about compromises in safety and comfort, especially for female passengers sharing limited space.
To tackle this problem head-on, RTO Kashmir issued directives for intensified inspections, particularly during late evening hours. The focus is on enforcing penalties for exceeding passenger capacity limits and ensuring the availability of public transport.
The initiative aims to alleviate the risk of accidents associated with overloading, particularly during peak hours, connecting vital locations in the city, such as Lal Chowk and major hospitals.
Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari stated, “This initiative aims to address the pressing issue of overloading and enhance the overall safety and convenience of passengers.”
These stringent measures underscore the commitment of the authorities to create a safer and more comfortable public transport environment for all residents.
