Srinagar, Dec 27: In a significant effort to enhance the patient care, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India has awarded National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS) certification to two hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district, health officials said.
Health officials said PHC Sedow, PHC Herman in Shopian have been granted “Quality Certification” for upholding high quality standards at the institutions.
“I congratulate you and your team for taking up two public health facilities of Jammu & Kashmir for Quality Certification under NQAS Program. The facilities underwent External Assessment by the empanelled NQAS external assessors,” said an official letter addressed to Administrative Secretary Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar from GoI.
It said that the certified health facilities should strive to work on recommended areas of improvements and submit the action plan to the State Quality Assurance Unit.
“The State Quality assurance unit is expected to verify improvement in surveillance audits and submit the status to Certification Unit NHSRC along with the surveillance reports,” the official document said.
The Administrative Secretary congratulated the staff of the certified hospitals for this achievement. He urged all Medical Colleges, District Hospitals, CHCs and all Health Care facilities in J&K to work to implement NQAS standards for improved patient care.
The Certified Healthcare Facilities were assessed by a team of highly qualified and empanelled National Assessors from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of India in October, 2023.
They had assessed the hospital services and satisfaction levels based on various parameters, including available services, patient rights, inputs, support services, clinical services, infection control, quality management, and outcomes.
The two PHCs shall receive an additional yearly annual grant of Rs 3 lakh each as part of NQAS certification for next three years under the National Health Mission for further strengthening.
Mission Director, NHM J&K, Babila Rakwal said the certification was accorded in recognition of the high standards of quality and performance maintained by the hospitals. The MD NHM informed that under NHM all efforts are being made to strengthen the health care delivery system to the utmost satisfaction of the general public.
Only those hospitals meeting the stringent standards receive the Union Health Ministry’s quality certification. Hospitals get NQAS) certification from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for upholding high-quality standards at the institution.
