Srinagar, Nov 13:  The Meteorological Department on Sunday said they were expecting light to moderate spell of rain on Monday and stated that this spell can lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation on Zojila, Sadnatop,Mugal roads in the region.

Director of Indian Meteorological Centre Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting light to moderate rain and snowfall over higher reaches on Monday and weather will likely improve from Tuesday onward.

“Apart from higher reaches, there are chances of light spell at some places of plains also. Plains will witness moderate rains during the same period,” he said.

Lotus said from Sunday late evening, there will be a slight decrease in day temperatures in the Valley and evenings will be colder.

He said from November 14th, light snowfall and rain may lead to temporary disruption of surface transportation over Zojila, Sinthan Top, Mughal road, etc. As per present conditions, there is a 70 percent chance of snowfall in higher reaches and rain in plains, during the same period,” he said.

Lotus said several places in Kashmir are witnessing sub-zero temperatures for the past several days.

On Sunday, Srinagar recorded 13.8 °C as the maximum and 0.8°C as the minimum temperature.  Ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla recorded 3.8 °C maximum temperature and 3.6°C as the minimum temperature.

Health resort Pahalgam recorded 10.4 °C and a minimum of minus 3.8 °C degrees and was the coldest place in Kashmir. Qazigund recorded a maximum of 13.4°C and minus 0.2° C as minimum temperature.

Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded maximum temperatures of 13.8°C, while minimum temperatures settled at minus 1.4°C.

The dense fog continued to engulf many parts including the city as a consequence of which vehicles moved with headlights on during the morning and evening hours.

As per the traffic advisory issued by traffic police headquarters  subject to fair weather and better road condition LMVs shall be allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

Similarly on Mughal road, vehicular movement will be allowed from both sides of the highway. LMVs will be released from Buffliaz Pooch towards Srinagar at 0900 hours upto 1600 hrs. From Shopian to Poonch at 11 am to 4pm onward, it will be followed by HMVs on the road and no vehicle will be allowed after cut off timings.
