Srinagar, Mar 15: The Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) and the Department of Wildlife Protection (DWP) jointly organized a two-day workshop on the Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022 for the frontline staff of the Department of Wildlife Protection in Jammu & Kashmir.
The workshop aimed to keep the staff updated on the changing trends and laws related to wildlife protection in the region.
The event was held at the Banquet Hall in Srinagar, J&K, and was attended by 69 participants including officials from the DWP, J&K, Forest Protection Force (FPF), J&K, and judiciary.
The workshop included sessions on the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, relevant sections under which the accused can be charged, and ways to minimize common mistakes while preparing the Preliminary Offence Report (POR) to present a stronger case.
Resource persons included Mr. Jose Louies, Deputy Director, and Chief of Enforcement, WTI, Adv. Lovish Sharma, a lawyer at the Delhi High Court, and local lawyer Adv. Yawar Yousuf Zia, J&K High Court, Srinagar.
Dr. Tanushree Srivastava, Manager and Head, J&K Projects, WTI, summarized the two-day sessions and the Regional Wildlife Warden, Shri Rashid Naqash, gave the valedictory address.
Top three participants who scored the highest in an assessment test were felicitated, and certificates were distributed to all participants.
Both WTI and DWP, J&K, proposed planning and conducting more such workshops in the near future
