Srinagar, April 02: The Baramulla-Banihal train has emerged as the top choice for travellers during the ongoing Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations in Kashmir, offering an affordable, comfortable, and hassle-free journey.
With fares as low as Rs. 30-40, many residents from north and south Kashmir have embraced train travel over road transport, praising its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Junaid Ahmad, a resident of Pattan said they visited Verinag on the second day of Eid and returned the same evening. The train journey was smooth, affordable, and far more relaxing compared to the exhausting road trip. It’s a game-changer for us, he said.
“The train service, which connects Baramulla in north Kashmir to Sangaldan in the Jammu region, has improved travel convenience. Families and friends made the most of the service, embarking on day trips to scenic locations such as Qazigund, Anantnag, and other places.
Shahid Mir, another traveler from Sopore said that the train ride was incredibly comfortable. Unlike road travel, there were no long traffic jams, and we reached our destination on time. The affordability of the train makes it the best option for festival travel, he said.
Mir said that with its pocket-friendly fares and seamless connectivity, the Baramulla-Sangaldan train has not only eased commuter woes but also boosted local tourism.
Zahida Bano, a student from Anantnag said that trains are safe, spacious, and much easier to manage than a crowded bus or shared cab. “We visited Uri Baramulla for Eid and came back the same day without any hassle,” she said.
“As a student, saving money is important for me. The train allows me to travel across Kashmir without spending too much. It is a great initiative, and I hope more routes are introduced soon,” she said.
Chief Area Manager Kashmir, IRTS, Saqib Yousuf Yatoo told Rising Kashmir that response from passengers has been overwhelming, especially during the festive season.
“We are continuously working to enhance the service, ensuring better connectivity and increased frequency to accommodate more travelers,” he said.
