In a bid to promote economic expansion and industrial progress in the district, the District Industries Centre Bandipora sponsored 576 cases engaging more than 1500 youth in different employment ventures over the past four years.
The Industries department in Bandipora in collaboration with District Administration Bandipora is on the forefront to promote a mindset change among the youth to go for business enterprises as a means of employment.
The department attracted investment by offering subsidies and creating a conducive environment of business for local youth.
A senior official of Industries Department Bandipora informed that over the past 04 years the department has sponsored 576 cases engaging 1512 youth.
He informed that Rs. 15 crore have been disbursed among the local youth to start their own business units.
The department has taken various remarkable steps in the past 04 years with a key goal to create job opportunities, which contribute to improved living standards for the local population.
A young and determined beneficiary of DIC Bandipora, Shahida Khanam started her journey with a vision of establishing her cutting and tailoring unit and dreamt of creating job opportunities and contributing to her community’s economic growth.
However, she faced various challenges, including limited access to capital.
Recognizing the potential of Shahida’s idea, the industries department offered her financial support which allowed her to secure the capital required to establish cutting and tailoring centre in her locality.
Shahida not only cherished her dream of establishing her own cutting and tailoring unit but also provided employment to other local girls.
She is a shining example of how Government schemes empower individuals to achieve their entrepreneurial dreams, create jobs, and drive economic growth in their communities.
Shahida also serves as an inspiration to others, showing that with determination and the right support, anyone can transform their entrepreneurial aspirations into reality.

Two-day National Seminar begins at University of Kashmir
SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 01: A two day National seminar being organized by the Department of History, University of Kashmir on ‘Syncretism in Indian History with Special Reference to Kashmir’ began today at varsity’s Gandhi Bhawan, here.
The event is funded by Indian Council for Historical Research (I.C.H.R), New Delhi.
The seminar is intended to debate the idea of syncretism in Indian history with special attention to the reflections from Kashmir’s past.
The seminar has attracted a diverse group of attendees, including academics, experts, students and scholars from various fields to debate and move forward the frontiers of scholarly conversation on the theme. More than forty papers were selected from scholars across the country to present their cross-disciplinary ways of making sense of the theme.
The event was formally inaugurated by a keynote address presented by a reputed historian of the field, Professor Raziuddin Aquil, Professor of History at the Department of History, University of Delhi.
The key highlight of the address was Professor Aquil’s attempt to historicize syncretism in a larger South Asian context by presenting reflections from Medieval India. He underscored cross-cultural interactions in Medieval India by looking at intersections between communities, cultures and people in India’s medieval past.
The presidential address was followed by the remarks presented by Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mir, Registrar of the University, who briefly touched upon the sociological perspective on Kashmir’s syncretic past.
The Registrar additionally hailed the University’s progress and achievements in national and international spheres.
The inaugural session was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nilofer Khan, who commented on Aquil’s scholarship while highlighting reflections of Kashmir’s syncretism from, among other areas, art, architecture and cuisine in her presidential address. She congratulated the department for choosing such an important theme.
Prof. M. Y. Ganai, Head of the Department and Dean of the School of Social Sciences, detailed the audience about the profile of the Department besides presenting his informed opinion of the theme.
The convener of the seminar Dr Younus Rashid (Assistant Professor) in the department while highlighting the significance of the seminar remarked that the overall idea of conducting the seminar is to provide a platform for academic debate and evolve a meaningful discussion on Kashmir’s syncretic past and present.
Papers selected for the seminar will be presented in several technical sessions aimed at fostering and informing knowledge exchange.

District Hospital Kulgam achieves new milestone in Cataract extraction: MS
KULGAM, NOVEMBER 01: Six patients were operated today for cataract surgery in District Hospital, Kulgam therefore making a significant stride vis-à-vis improving the healthcare in the district.
Phaco was done on all patients under a single topical drop of Propacaine 0.5%, with no postoperative pad, bandage and local injection, informed the Medical Superintendent (M.S) District Hospital Kulgam.
He added that from the era of ECCE to SICS for cataract extraction, when it would take two to three days for postoperative rehabilitation, medical science has evolved beyond expectations and all operating surgeons have to maintain the skill and pace with these latest technological advances.
Patient could see just after completion of surgery. It is first of its kind of such a technique at any District hospital of J&K UT which is used to operate the patients.
With this technique, cataract surgery becomes an OPD procedure with just two hours of short stay hospital admission.
He expressed gratitude to the administration and congratulated Dr. Dilawar Consultant Ophthalmologist and his team for conducting such surgical interventions.

Job Fair-2023 held at GDC Uri
BARAMULLA, NOVEMBER 01: In order to facilitate educated youth of the district with employment opportunities in different sectors, a day-long job fair was held at Government Degree College (GDC) Uri, here.
The fair was inaugurated by the Joint Director Employment Kashmir, Zeenat Ara in presence of Principal GDC Uri and Assistant Director Employment, Career Counseling Officer, Employment Officer, and Young Professional of DE&CC Baramulla.
The daylong mega job fair programme was organised by District Employment and Counselling Centre (DE&CC/MCC) Baramulla in active collaboration with GDC Uri.
As many as 10 employers from different sectors including Banking, Finance, Insurance, Transport, IT, construction, Civil Aviation etc participated in the event.
The event also witnessed an overwhelming response from job seekers as around 739 plus youth from across the district participated in the programme. 107 candidates were shortlisted for 600 plus Vacancies offered by 10 Employers/Job Provides across the sectors, 23 candidates were given offer letters on spot.
Further, 211 on spot registrations were made and 28 candidates were identified for skill development training courses to be conducted by RSETI Baramulla.
Various company representatives also addressed the youth and made them aware about the changing requirement of industry and job skills required for employment in the contemporary times.
