Srinagar, Jan 31: Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar saw thousands of devotees gather to offer Friday prayers on the eve of Meraj-un-Nabi (PBUH). The devotees also witnessed the Holy Relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which was displayed during the prayers.
Eyewitnesses reported a large number of devotees at Hazratbal shrine for the Friday congregational prayers, with people from all walks of life, women, children, and the elderly—joining in the occasion. The roads leading to the shrine were packed with devotees throughout the day.
Similar scenes were witnessed at other mosques and shrines in the valley, where large crowds gathered to offer prayers and mark the auspicious event. At Hazratbal, the Holy Relic of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was displayed after each prayer, as is customary on such occasions. Devotees took the opportunity to pray for the peace and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, one local devotee expressed his gratitude to the administration for ensuring smooth arrangements during the event. “The administration has done a commendable job in making sure everything runs smoothly for the devotees. The traffic management and essential services were well-organized,” he said.
Another devotee, a local resident, shared, “It’s a day of great significance for us, and we are thankful to see such arrangements. The authorities have made sure we have everything we need, from transportation to basic amenities.”

In addition to Hazratbal shrine, congregational prayers were also held at other prominent religious sites, including Jenab Sahab Soura, Asaar Sharief Kailashpora, Aham Sharief Bandipora, Makhama Budgam, and Kaba Marg Anantnag. It’s estimated that around 50,000 to 60,000 devotees participated in the prayers in intervals throughout the day at Hazratbal.
To manage the large crowds, Traffic Police Srinagar deployed personnel on the roads leading to Hazratbal, assisting motorists and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
The administration had also made special arrangements, ensuring uninterrupted electricity and water supply for the convenience of the devotees. Additionally, transport facilities were made available for those coming from distant areas to participate in the prayers at the shrine. An official confirmed these efforts, saying, “We ensured that everything was in place to facilitate the devotees who had come from far-off places to offer prayers.”
