Srinagar, March 05: The J&K government on Wednesday informed the Assembly about the power supply arrangements in Zewan Bala, confirming that a third feeder from the newly established 10 MVA sub-station will cater to local residents.
This clarification comes in response to concerns raised in the Assembly by National Conference MLA Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed regarding power supply arrangements in the area.
In a written reply to a starred question, the government clarified that Zewan and Zawoora are presently supplied electricity through feeder-6 (6.6 KV level) from the Pampore receiving station. However, to accommodate the growing demand, especially due to the construction of transit accommodations for Kashmiri migrant employees at Zewan, a dedicated 10 MVA (33/11 KV) sub-station has been set up.
The government explained that the sub-station has three outgoing 11 KV feeders, of which two are designated for the migrant colony, while the third feeder remains available for additional load requirements. Notably, the government affirmed that this third feeder will eventually supply electricity to the local population.
“The third feeder of the newly established station will be utilized to supply electricity to the local inhabitants,” the government stated. “However, this will be implemented after voltage conversion of the existing distribution transformers under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), ensuring that the infrastructure can handle the additional load efficiently.”
Responding to concerns about whether the sub-station exclusively caters to the migrant colony, the government clarified, “The facility has three outgoing feeders—two designated for the migrant colony and one kept in reserve. This third feeder is meant to address future local power demands, ensuring that residents of Zewan Bala are also beneficiaries of the upgraded infrastructure.”
