Over the past two and a half years of my post-retirement period, many former students have remained in touch through phone calls, WhatsApp, or Facebook ‘group’ messages. However, ‘direct communications’ – whether through personal calls or messages – especially during Eid festivities, had been declining. This led me to expect only a handful of such messages this time. Yet, to my surprise, several well-established students from university and field departments reached out with heartfelt prayers for my health, happiness, and well-being, proving my assumption wrong.
“A phone call from an old student brings joy and satisfaction to a retired teacher.” This statement was once casually mentioned by one of my three most cherished teachers (to whom I dedicated my PhD thesis) during our routine conversations over a decade ago. At the time, I took it lightly, but now, I truly understand its significance.
Teaching was never just a profession for me – it was a lifelong commitment. I have always cherished sharing my knowledge, spending hours guiding my students through the practical intricacies of our field, regardless of their background, religion, or gender. Over time, they have become an inseparable part of my journey. Seeing them grow into successful professionals and responsible individuals brings me immense joy.
Staying connected with former students gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment. Their achievements – promotions, academic successes, marriages – fill me with pride, while news of their struggles weighs on my heart behind the scenes.
Hearing from students reassures that my efforts may have left a lasting impact on at least a few of them. On this note, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all my students, especially those who took the time to send me Eid greetings. May the Almighty bless you all with success and empower each of you to make meaningful contributions to society through animal production, health, and welfare – an essential, lifelong commitment embraced with dedication upon taking the Veterinarian’s Oath.
