Srinagar, Sept 09: The 20th Annual General body meeting of the Jammu & Kashmir Milk Producers Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL)’ was held on Monday 9th September under the Chairmanship of A. K. Angurana, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, Board of JKMPCL. Jayen Mehta, Managing Director GCMMF Ltd. along with Dhiraj Chaudhary, MD Mehsana Union GCMMF also attended the meeting.
The Chairman while addressing the general body extended his felicitations to the participating members and said, JKMPCL has emerged as the leading dairy cooperative organization of J&K, empowering thousands of milk producers by supporting their livelihoods, along with ensuring consistent supply of quality milk and milk products to our valued consumers. JKMPCL’s success story would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of our farmer-members, the visionary leadership from GCMMF (Amul), and the trust and faith bestowed upon us by our shareholders (i.e.,village-level dairy cooperatives associated with JKMPCL) and certainly the hard work and perseverance of our employees.
He said that he is proud of the collective accomplishments of JKMPCL as they have witnessed consistent growth in the milk procurement, processing capacity and market presence. “It merits a mention that during the last year, we have achieved 25% growth in sales turnover and for the first time JKMPCL crossed ₹ 339 Crore turnover”, he said.
During the year 2023-24, numerous training programs were organized by JKMPCL for the milk producing farmers at the ‘Northern Regional Demonstration & Training Centre’ of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Jalandhar in Punjab, Regional Institute for Cooperative Management, Chandigarh, and National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand Gujarat. Such programs aimed to provide valuable insights and practical knowledge to the participating farmers for improved productivity and efficiency in their dairy operations.
During the FY 2023-24, around 40 batches comprising more than 1500 farmer-members including women members from both the divisions have been sent to NDDB Jalandhar, RICM Chandigarh, and NDDB Anand for the training.
Jayen Mehta, Managing Director GCMMF expressed his immense joy while addressing the general body. Since inception, the organization has made substantial progress in the fields of procurement collecting over 2.50 lakh litres per day, processing and marketing of milk along with ensuring remunerative prices at an average price of ₹ 43 per litre of milk during the FY 2023-24 to our milk producers and customer satisfaction.
JKMPCL has become an ideal example of dairy development through the cooperative model on ‘Amul Pattern’ in Jammu & Kashmir. It is a fitting tribute to the legendary Dr Verghese Kurien, father of the white revolution, as he deeply felt that farmers of Jammu and Kashmir should also reap benefits of the dairy cooperative movement. The most potent indicator of progress is the remunerative farm-gate prices paid to the farmer members of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dhiraj Chaudhary, MD of Mehsana Union, also addressed the gathering and encouraged the milk producers of JKMPCL to take benefits of various government schemes available to them. He emphasized the importance of these schemes in enhancing the productivity and profitability of dairy farming for the benefit of the milk producers in Jammu and Kashmir.
