Poonch, Jul 25: At least ten people were injured in a road accident at Kalai near Poonch when a minibus lost control and veered off the road, allegedly due to the driver’s negligence and possible intoxication.According to officials, the minibus bearing registration number JK12D-5793 was en route from Poonch to Surankote when the accident occurred. The vehicle reportedly went out of the driver’s control near the Kalai area and fell off the road into a ditch.Locals and Army personnel immediately rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured passengers. All ten injured individuals, including several women, were promptly shifted to District Hospital Poonch for medical treatment.Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Poonch, Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan, confirmed that ten injured persons were brought to the hospital. “All the injured are stable and are undergoing treatment,” he said.One of the passengers on board alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was driving recklessly. “The driver appeared to be drunk. The vehicle was swerving dangerously, and despite attempts by passengers to stop him, he lost control and drove the bus into a ditch,” the passenger claimed.The incident has sparked concern among residents, who have often witnessed accidents due to negligent and intoxicated driving. Many have urged the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Poonch and the traffic police to take strict action against such irresponsible drivers who endanger passengers’ lives.A case has been registered by the Poonch Police, and further investigation into the incident is underway, an official said.
