Shopian, July 26: Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta Saturday toured Shopian town in order to take a firsthand appraisal of traffic management.A statement issued here said that DC accompanied by ADC, Dr.Zakir Hussain Faaz, Tehsildar, CEO, MC, ARTO, CEO, DIO, Executive Engineer R&B and other officers toured high footfall areas experiencing huge traffic including Hospital Road, Clock Tower, Jamia Masjid and Zero Point. DC took stock of the current position of the traffic management and reviewed measures to be taken for efficient space utilisation for parking areas. After taking on ground assessment, DC issued instructions for taking measures for streamlining the traffic in the town, including better space utilisation for public amenities, demarcating no parking and vending zones in high footfall areas and earmarking parking space in the town. He also directed for bridging infrastructure gaps in the town along with enhancing the aesthetic view of the town by taking beautification measures. DC also stressed on undertaking strict action against wrong parking and encroachment of roads and footpaths to avoid traffic congestion. Regulation of heavy vehicles into the town was also discussed and appropriate action was emphasised to be taken on the implementation of the traffic SOPs.
