Srinagar, Mar 25: Minister for FCS&CA, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Information Technology, Science and Technology, ARI & Training Satish Sharma on Tuesday informed the Assembly that the survey of underserved routes in Khansahib Constituency has been completed, and new buses will be introduced soon to address the growing transportation needs of the region.
The statement came in response to a question raised by MLA Khansahib Saif-u-din Bhat, who sought details on the progress made in improving public transport facilities in his constituency and the steps being taken to introduce new bus routes.
In his response, Minister Satish Sharma highlighted the significant improvements made in the transport sector in Khansahib over the past five years. He stated, “The region currently has four operational sumo stands — Soliyah Sumo Stand, Syed Shah Yaqoob Sumo Stand, Sheikh Ul Alam Sumo Stand, and Doodpathri Sumo Stand — with a combined capacity of about 150 taxis and maxi cabs. These sumo stands cater to various destinations, including Budgam, Srinagar, Beerwah, Arizal, and Doodpathri, meeting the daily transportation requirements of the local population.”
Furthermore, Sharma said that “two large buses each from RTC and Western Bus Services Batmaloo, Srinagar, are operational, providing public transport from Srinagar to Khansahib and covering various areas within the constituency.”
Addressing the concern of underserved routes, Sharma explained that a survey had been conducted to identify such routes, adding, “Once the JKRTC augments the transport fleet, new buses will be introduced to enhance connectivity across Khansahib.”
