Srinagar, July 18: Commissioner Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Mandeep Kaur, during her review of the smart city project in Srinagar on Thursday affirmed that developmental work under the city’s Smart City project will proceed uninterrupted.
Speaking to reporters during her visit, Kaur acknowledged challenges, particularly a temporary funding shortage impacting project timelines. However, she assured that necessary funds have been disbursed, ensuring uninterrupted project completion moving forward.
“We have closely reviewed ongoing works to assess quality and future needs. This helps us strategize effectively for upcoming projects,” Kaur remarked.
Accompanied by Commissioner SMC who is also smart city CEO, Dr. Owais Ahmed, and senior officers from SMC, SSCL, U.E.E.D, and line departments, Kaur conducted a thorough inspection of ongoing development works across the city.
Locations inspected included Karanagar, where detailed briefings on underground ducting and road development were provided. Discussions extended to Shireen Bagh for walkway improvements and Habba Kadal for the restoration of heritage sites like the Iskcon Temple and infrastructure upgrades.
Key projects such as the septage treatment plants at Achan and solid waste management initiatives in Soura were also highlighted, indicating a comprehensive urban rejuvenation effort.
“We have allocated specific funds for infrastructure upgrades pending budget approval. Once approved, these funds will accelerate our efforts,” Kaur added, emphasizing the commitment to timely project execution.
Noteworthy directives included the beautification of public spaces like Malla Bagh and Alamgari Bazar’s Imamia Park, with plans for tree planting and park illumination.
The tour culminated with a visit to the Low-Lying Pump Station at Ashai Bagh, where directives were issued to expedite departmental projects across Srinagar.
“We are focused on leveraging modern technologies and community participation to transform Srinagar into a model smart city,” Kaur concluded, reflecting optimism for the city’s future urban landscape.
