SPO, ambulance driver among several arrested in multiple drug busts in Baramulla

Baramulla, March 03: Police on Friday said they made a series of successful drug busts in parts of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, resulting in multiple arrests and the recovery of contraband substances.
A police official told Rising Kashmir that during the naka checking, police arrested an SPO and a contractual driver of the health department who was found involved in drug abuse.
He said that during a routine patrolling at Singh Bagh, Khawaja Bagh Baramulla, Tariq Ahmad Sheikh and Aashiq Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Singh Bagh, were apprehended while they attempted to flee.
After searching them, 250 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered, the official said, adding that Tariq Ahmad Sheikh is an SPO in J&K Police and is currently posted at DPL Baramulla.
“A departmental action has been initiated against him,” he said.
In another operation, police said that during a routine patrolling in Dewan Bagh Baramulla, Irfan Ahmad Sheikh and Sharif Ahmad Sheikh, both residents of Dewanbagh, were apprehended while they attempted to flee. After searching, 295 grams of Charas-like substance was recovered from them, he said.
Similarly, in another operation, police said that during a naka checking, a person Sikwahat Khan was arrested at Bela Boniyar, and a notorious drug peddler Sameer Ahmad Khan was arrested at the main market in Boniyar. The official said 28 grams of Charas-like substance and 15 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered from them respectively.
Police also arrested a drug peddler Mehraj-ud-Din Sofi during a surprise naka checking at Palhallan Morh Pattan. “He was carrying 200 tablets of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus and 10 syrups of Codeine Phosphate,” the official said.
During the initial investigation, the person revealed that he is a contractual employee of the Health Department and is presently posted at Trauma Hospital Pattan as an ambulance driver, he said.
“Cases under NDPS Act have been registered in all these incidents in the respective police stations and investigations are underway,” the official said.
