Sonamarg welcomes winter thrills with inaugural ice-skating event

Ganderbal, Dec 28:  Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has launched its first-ever ice-skating event in the enchanting hill station of Sonamarg area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. The initiative focuses on training local boys from various government institutions in Zone Hariganiwan, Kangan, imparting skills under the guidance of expert trainers.
Officials from the Sonmarg Development Authority express their unwavering commitment to transforming Sonamarg into a bustling tourism hub, defying winter’s chill for the past three years. With a dedicated approach to enhancing accessibility and visitor experiences, the SDA aims to not only open up Sonamarg during the winter season but also provide improved facilities for tourists.
 
The collaborative efforts extend beyond accessibility, as the region gears up for winter sports events to attract a diverse array of tourists, showcasing its dedication to bolstering tourism. Preparations are underway to ensure a seamless experience for visitors, covering essential aspects such as water supply, healthcare facilities, and clear roads to hotels.
 
As the winter season unfolds, Sonamarg anticipates embracing the thrill of ice skating for the first time. This addition has sparked immense joy among locals, who foresee a wave of opportunities accompanying this winter sport.
 
Local stakeholders expect not only joy but also increased employment opportunities for the youth. Roles in learning and guiding, forming ice skating clubs, and collaboration with the tourism department are anticipated to flourish. The move is viewed as a significant opportunity for both tourists and the local market.
 
Chief Executive Officer of the Sonamarg Development Authority, Dr Illiyas Hussain (JKAS) highlighted the historic nature of this year’s ice-skating initiation. He emphasized that organizing basic ice skating in this mesmerizing hill station is poised to attract more tourists to the area.
