Srinagar, Feb 21: Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former minister, Hakeem Yaseen on Wednesday urged the district administration of Budgam to promptly clear snow from various roads in the upper Kandi areas of the district. He also called for the early restoration of power and water supply in the snow-affected rural areas of Budgam, where feeders and electric lines have sustained damage due to heavy snowfall.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem said that while snow has been partially cleared from the roads in the main Budgam town and its nearby areas, many roads in the upper Kandi areas remain closed as snow clearance machinery has yet to reach them. He highlighted the ongoing challenge of power supply restoration in these areas, urging the government to deploy personnel and equipment promptly to restore road communication and power supply to alleviate the hardships faced by the residents.
Yaseen stressed the urgency of resolving the problems caused by widespread snowfall across the valley without delay, emphasizing the critical need for the restoration of road connectivity. He specifically called for the early restoration of National Highway-44, Srinagar-Leh Highway, Mughal Road, and roads connecting Bandipora-Gurez, Keran, and Karnah.
The former minister urged the administration to ensure an adequate supply of essential commodities to consumers, which has been disrupted due to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
